Bayshore Marathon Week 20

Another solid week of training with a lot of Boston on my mind. It’s hard to believe the bombings were two years ago. It also made me realize my surgery was 2 years ago. I have had such a great come back and know what works for me. Chiro, sports massage, the occasional dry needling session, lots of yoga and pilates and stretching and foam rolling. I still have some impingement issues, but I spend SO much time in my car for work that I’m not sure that will ever go away. I’m...

2013: More Than Just Miles

To put it bluntly, if I could have a least favorite year of events, 2013 would be it. There were a lot of lows. I started my second day of the year in court for my assault. Two weeks later, an injury to my hip that took a few minutes to figure out. Dreams of a BHAG marathon were out the window. Follow this by huge heartbreak in my love life and in running. I lost both in March in April. I spent most of my Spring and Summer rehabbing from surgery (and partying a bit, too). I can look back and...

Starting 33 with Bourbon…

This past weekend I celebrated my thirty-third birthday. WTF. As usual, with a birthday comes reflection on the past year and hopes and wishes for the future. I tend to look at life with the glass half full, but in all reality, thirty-two wasn’t all it cracked up to be. It seemed every high was somehow followed with a low (or is that just life?).  5K and 1/2 marathon PRs and then the assault and first trial. A new job and beautiful niece born into the family followed by a breakup and the...

REALLY Running…

I often feel as though the play by play posts about my getting back to the real world of training is boring…oh well. Luckily, it includes tidbits of my “real” life outside of this running comeback. Week of Sept.23rd: Monday: 3 mile run. My first REAL run without walk breaks. I was in Mobile for work, and to be honest…it was much harder than I expected it to be.  Those 3 miles felt like an all out 5K. Tuesday: rest. Wednesday: 4 mile run/walk 3:1 ratio in the rain. Got...

Those First Steps

It’s been a GREAT few days. Some highs and lows, but time to fill you in. I was in Birmingham last week for work, so I was stuck in the worst Marriott hotel gym of all time. Seriously. 2 treadmill, 1 elliptical, weights. That is it. It was a fight to get a machine. Monday: 20 minute walk, 40 minute elliptical, weights Tuesday: 40 minute ellptical Wednesday: 20 minute walk, 40 minute elliptical, weights Thursday: 40 minute elliptical Friday: rest. Chiro appointment. I haven’t seen my...

To Run or Not to Run…

Oh, hi!! I’ve missed yall. Thanks for your kind words on the previous post and thanks for sticking with me and being so supportive through this recovery. Week 17 Monday: 3 mile walk, 40 minute elliptical, 20 minute bike, weights. I have no idea why I did so much. I decided to walk with one of my best friends parents in Nashville early in the morning before work and decided I needed more of a workout that afternoon. I then spent my night chasing down Connie Britton (Nashville fans...
