New Haven Road Race 1/2 Marathon

State #47 Half Marathon #57 Connecticut was one of those states that I struggled to fit into my schedule. Hartford had actually always been my goal race for the state, but it didn’t work out so when I found a race in New Haven, I decided that’s what I would do. Pre-Race Rich and I flew into Bradley Airport (Hartford) on Saturday morning. We decided to drive to Mystic (an hour from the airport) to check out the town before driving an hour to New Haven. We, of course, had to stop at Mystic...

Missoula 1/2 Marathon Race Recap

State #45 Half Marathon #55 I have had the Missoula half on my to-do race list for quite some time. After we caught the National Park bug last year, it seemed like a great opportunity to do the race and Glacier National Park. It also worked out nicely with the 4th of July holiday and having 2 days off and only having to use 3 vacation days! Rich and I hiked A TON in Glacier the week before the race and biked and walked around Missoula on Friday and Saturday so I had no expectations at all for...

Grandma’s 1/2 Marathon Race Recap (Gary Bjorklund 1/2)

State #44 Half Marathon #54 I was originally going on this trip alone, too, with the intention of staying with my old neighbors and “second parents” who live in Minnesota.  After Boston, my friend Amanda decided to join me and race the full (she wanted to see if she could snag a BQ again since she barely missed it in April). It was a super long week for me, I had work meetings in NYC and flew straight to MN on Thursday night and Cindy (old neighbor/second mom) picked me...

Fargo 1/2 Marathon Race Recap

State #43 Half Marathon #53 After 42 states, North Dakota was my first race to travel alone. I do this for work ALL of the time, but I’ve never traveled for pleasure by myself. Pre-Race I flew out early Friday morning and arrived in Fargo around 2pm.  I rented  a car and immediately went downtown to explore a bit. I headed to the Fargodome to get my packet, had a chance to listen to Dave McGillery and then headed back downtown to grab dinner. I tried two different restaurants but...

Liberty Hospital 1/2 Marathon Race Recap

State 42 Half 52 Missouri has been a state that has driven me crazy- mainly because back in 2014 I missed the opportunity to run a double when I did the Garmin ½ in Kansas City. All of the races in St.Louis are in the fall, and I initially didn’t want to go back to Kansas City. I was a little nervous to do an inaugural race, but it fit in with my schedule so I just decided to suck it up (seeing as I’ve been to MO several times now). The race also aligned with Corey’s schedule and she...

First Light 1/2 Marathon Race Recap

State #7 (repeated) Alabama half #5 Half Marathon #51 I did this race in 2012 and have always wanted to do it again. Luckily, since we are local now, it can happen every year! Rich ended up winning two entries on Facebook the week before the race so it was a free entry for us. For the most part Alabama is HOT. Legit, I’ve pulled out a winter coat 1-2 times so far this year and this race weekend was one of the times. The weather for the race ended up being more cold than normal (just...

Boston Marathon Training Weeks 1 & 2

It’s hard to believe it’s already time for marathon training, but here we go. I’m still chasing a PR and Coach and I have talked about changing up our training from Marine Corp and I can already tell that the training is different. I spent December base building and still did some speed work- averaging almost 40 miles a week. I honestly wasn’t in the mood. It was the holiday season and seriously ate whatever I wanted the entire month and wanted to be lazy to go along...
