Marine Corp Marathon Race Recap

“State” #41 Marathon #9 I didn’t plan on doing a Fall marathon…but soon after Boston I wanted revenge on the marathon. And surprisingly, two of my sole sisters (Corey and Molly) were also planning to do the same marathon (we hadn’t even talked about it- just all 3 randomly entered the lottery). I was the only one who didn’t get in, so I chose to fundraise and then trained through the summer. Fall girls trip? Check. Pre-Race Once everyone was in D.C. on...

Marine Corp Marathon Goals

I feel like 2016 has been my year of the marathon. 2015 was a year of PRs and a new coach and things really starting to click. This year has been a lot of hard work. A lot of long runs (anything over 10 miles to me) and even more track work. I have LIVED on the track (the Sarah Marie Design shirt was oh so appropriate for this race and training cycle).I am type-A to a fault and love to check the box. I honestly don’t know if I’ve missed a single run that was on my training schedule...

Marine Corp Marathon Training Weeks 12, 13, 14, & 15

I have always been so good about writing about my training plans- mainly so that I can go back and evaluate each training cycle but lately I just haven’t had the time or energy to write. I’m always in awe of those that have time to blog regularly and unfortunately I don’t have a job that has me at a desk or even gives me a lunch break. So, with that, I get to play catch up on 2 months of training in a short period of time. More on race goals later this week. Week of September...

Orange Beach & Gulf Shores, Alabama- A Destination for a #Racecation

I spent every summer of my childhood vacationing in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach, Alabama. A short hour or so drive from my hometown used to feel like forever away as a child. After moving to Atlanta post graduation, I only made it back to the area for a random girls weekend or bachelorette party here and there, never to just vacation. Last November, I decided to do a race in Gulf Shores the Saturday after Thanksgiving but we drove there and back not leaving much time to hang out (to get back...

MCM Training Week 10 & 11

Week of August 22nd Monday: PLAN- 1 mile endurance, 3x1200m, 400 btw, 2 miles tempo  ACTUAL- 6 miles @ 7:52 avg pace 5:13, 5:05, 5:00, 7:16, 7:12- the first two were too slow, the third one right on target, and the tempo too fast. Oops. I felt good though! I finally saw the chiropractor after several months off to check on things, mainly for a slightly knee pain on my left side. I still have weakness, but I’m holding adjustment which I wasn’t doing when I first started seeing...

Jackson Hole Half Marathon Race Recap

State #39 Half Marathon #48 I had my eye on this race for over a year. I have a very understanding husband who allows me to plan our trips around races and it seems only fitting that since our honeymoon involved a race, our first anniversary trip should to, right? We took advantage of the extra days off for the holiday to celebrate a week early with a trip to Jackson Hole, the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Pre-Race We flew into Salt Lake City late Wednesday (technically arriving Thursday...
