Bayshore Marathon Week 6

Monday:

  • PLAN- day off
  • ACTUAL- Torq spin class

My first time getting to use Class Pass! Jesica and I met at Torq Atlanta to ride early in the morning. Torq is like flywheel, but the bikes and computers are a bit different. I definitely left sweating and felt like I had a great workout…but tried to take it easy knowing I had a tempo run the next day.IMG_0016Tuesday:

  • PLAN- 7 mile tempo run. 1 mile endurance pace, 6 miles tempo (7:34-7:40)
  • ACTUAL- 7 miles 7:48 avg pace. 8:47, 7:40, 7:32, 7:38, 7:41, 7:32, 7:41.

I wasn’t really feeling it. I slept in and ran after work thinking that would make it better but it didn’t. I had to take a couple of breaks for breathing purposes…but it was a fairly hilly tempo run, too, so I didn’t feel too bad having to do it. All in all, happy with the work.

Like a fool, I signed up for another class through Class Pass called Abs and Arms at Fit 2 B which is in my hood. I knew the instructor from my old gym and knew she was tough, but I’m not sure I was really prepared for how hard the workout would be. Probably not the smartest idea 30 minutes post tempo run (I was wiped) but I really enjoyed the class and liked focusing on abs and arms!IMG_0030Wednesday:

  • PLAN- 8 mile endurance run
  • ACTUAL- 8 miles 8:59 avg pace

Rich and I got up early to run before work and before the temps dropped to even cooler weather. I did 4 with him and then 4 on my own (no, I didn’t run 4 in the dark by myself!).IMG_0033

We built our first and probably last fire of the year. I’ve decided the fireplace is too small and my place is too old to put out enough heat. At least it looked pretty! IMG_0037Thursday:

  • PLAN- rest day
  • ACTUAL- rest day

I’m a pansy and was thankful for an off day with such cool temps (for the South). Richs’ mom also came in town that day. That night, I went to the Atlanta Track Club Suits and Singlets annual meeting and social. Deena Kastor was the guest speaker and she had a lot of great points (more to come). It was great getting to hang out with some of my favorite ATL running bloggers, too! IMG_0044 DSC_0053 DSC_0057Friday:

  • PLAN- 6.5 miles. 15 min Zone 2 warmup, 6x800s, 400m easy run recovery, 5 min Zone 1 cooldown
  • ACTUAL- 6.5 miles 8:22 avg pace all 6x800s at 3:22 on treadmill

Again, running 800s in the cold and dark aren’t my idea of a good time, so I went to the gym with Rich early to get the work in. I don’t love having to do the work on the treadmill- the only upside is holding the exact pace.IMG_0051Saturday:

  • PLAN- 11 mile recovery run
  • ACTUAL- 11 miles 9:30 avg pace

I met up with Jesica, Amy, Sarah, and Tricia. I’m always thankful to have someone to join me on a long run! It truly makes the miles go by faster!IMG_0067I spent the day with Rich and his mom shopping and then we went to dinner at Hal’s Steakhouse to celebrate his birthday a few days early.

Sunday:

  • PLAN- rest day
  • ACTUAL- rest day

A nice lazy day with family. I also FINALLY made myself get a gym membership to have access to a treadmill and free weights. I’ve held off long enough but with dark mornings, rainy mornings and chillier-than-my-liking mornings, I had to do it.

Total Miles for the Week: 32.5

Such a good week-friends, family, events, morning, afternoon, and treadmill running and 2 new cross training classes. I couldn’t really ask for much more. The only thing is a race….I’ve got the itch. Need to decide if I want to do a 5k or 10k before my next half marathon.

Will you run in the cold or find a gym instead? Do you like taking classes for cross training or do you just do weights on your own? Does your city have a track club? Are you a member? If so, what’s your favorite perk of being a member?

  • Way to stick to the plan! I’ve been paying for a gym membership for 2+ years now. I’m still a little chicken to do the weights, but the pool and spin classes are awesome when I don’t want to workout outside. Sometimes it’s too cold. Sometimes it’s too rainy. Sometimes, I just don’t want to be by myself.

Love the treadmill selfie/photobomb. You two are cute! 🙂

  • I don’t mind running in the cold one bit. But I spend a lot of time inside on the treadmill during the week because that’s what my schedule and respect for safety allows. I really enjoy group fitness classes, however I don’t really feel like a get a good strength workout from them. Yoga on the other hand is a must.

  • You had a great week as always! Love the treadmill/photobomb pic at the gym! I’ll run outside down to zero but I stay in on the mill when wind chills go below zero or its icy and I need speed/tempo work. I do not care for running in the dark.

  • I’m a member of the New Orleans track club. You get race discounts and the opportunity to participate in the Grand Prix race series (I’ve never purposefully participated, because it’s just too many races, but once I accidentally won second in my age group and got a shirt). Once I was offered the opportunity to race with them on a 10k team they selected, and that was really cool! It’s a great group of people – even though it’s a big club, they sent me a get-well card after I had surgery.

  • That’s so cool that you got to hear Deena. I would love to meet her someday. I have a treadmill at home, so I just run on that when it’s too cold outside. I love taking spin and boot camp classes. I have weights at home, but much prefer doing things like that with other people. As for running, I don’t mind doing it alone.
