I’m not big on resolutions. You won’t be getting them from me. I don’t have a lot that I want to change, so life goes on this year as it ended in 2013. January 1 didn’t start a new journey for me. Here’s what I will be doing in 2014.
1. Running all the races.
I am VERY excited to be able to race some states this year. Here’s my race (and trip) calendar so far.
Feb 1: Rock n Roll New Orleans 1/2 Marathon with Team in Training. I was sad to have to sit this one out last year since I have run it since the inaugural year. Excited to run for charity and in my favorite city.
March 29:Run the Bluegrass 1/2 Marathon (KY) with Molly and Corey. A reunion again!
April 26: Garmin Oz 1/2 Marathon (KS) with Kim. We have tried for months to find a state to knock off the list together and this fell into our laps.
June 21: Mayors 1/2 Marathon (AK). YES. ALASKA. I have convinced Abby (even though she hasn’t completed her first 1/2 yet) that she will love the distance and gave her a choice between the Grand Canyon or Alaska. So here we are. And we are staying for a few extra days to explore. SOOO excited about this trip.
November 2: NYC Marathon. Hopefully with everyone I know. Seriously, so many blogger friends doing this race this year.
I have no idea what I am doing for my fall 1/2s yet. That will depend on what Jess says I can do when she starts to coach me again for the marathon. I have absolutely no expectations to PR in the 1/2 this year, it will be a building year again. I DO plan to PR in the marathon. I believe I am fully capable of beating my 3:59 time.
I will run some 5Ks and 10Ks I’m sure, but not really sure I will be in any sort of racing shape to PR this distance either. Maybe in the fall?
If I can squeeze in Wisconsin in May too, I will. BUT, I have an additional trip to NYC for my moms birthday, Arizona for work, Colorado for work, and Park City for a wedding this year. That.Is.A lot.
2. Stay Healthy
I will follow training plans and take it easy as I can continue to build my base back up to what it used to be. I want to run healthy and NOT injured! If 2014 goes as planned, it will be the first two years without an injury! I will add slowly add in speed work, start yoga again, maintain pilates and flywheel and hopefully add in another strength training option.
I am also keeping a log of my food intake and, TMI, bathroom stops. I don’t talk about it much, but often have stomach issues. I am not one to cut out food groups for the “fun” of it or for health reasons so I am writing it down to see if there are patterns. I plan on seeing a doctor at some point because it’s gone on too long and it’s time to see if there is something that needs to be fixed.
I will also do my hip exercises and core work every.single.day (tracking in my food log as well to stay accountable).
3. Do More Good.
I wan to volunteer more. Maybe at the Atlanta Track Club events, Atlanta Pet Rescue, my church, or with Team in Training. I just want to give my time when I can.
It’s pretty simple. Run, stay healthy, do good. And have fun doing it all.
Do you like resolutions? What are your goals for the year? Will I see you at any races this year?
