Thanks for all of the feedback from yesterdays post. I briefly mentioned a race I know I will be doing in the Fall and it is right here in Atlanta. The 13.1 in Atlanta! I have yet to run in a 13.1 series race and I am excited!
Several things that really excite me about this race:
- It’s run by the same company that puts on the Publix GA 1/2 Marathon in March
- I know the course and used to live over in the Brookhaven neighborhood
- It’s in the Fall and the temps will be cooler
- I’ll earn a a piece of bling that looks a little like this
A few more details on the race:
The Allstate Life Insurance℠ Atlanta 13.1 Marathon® and Karhu 5K events will take place on Sunday, October 7, beginning at 7 a.m. The race will start and finish at Town Brookhaven, 4330 Peachtree Rd, NE, Atlanta, GA 30319.
The course encompasses Town Brookhaven in Atlanta‘s Brookhaven community, situated on Peachtree Road, north of Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza, and borders the historic Oglethorpe University.
The Allstate Life Insurance℠ Atlanta 13.1 Marathon® is walker friendly. The course will remain open for 3 hours and 30 minutes (16 minute/mile pace).
Participants have until Oct. 3 to register online and can do so at http://www.131marathon.com/
I’m looking forward to running this! I hope you will join me. If you aren’t up for the 1/2 marathon you can always do the 5K. And, if any of you from out of town are interested, let me know. I know plenty of places to stay.

Sounds awesome! I still need GA and this would be a great race. Unfortunately this is 1 week after Wineglass and I don't think a good time to run a half marathon. Maybe in 2013!!

I did the 13.1 Allstate Series in Queens NY and I LOVED IT. The T-Shirts are AWESOME first of all. And it was super well organized!
I highly recommend it! I kind of want to come down to GA to do it
I ran it last year. Great finish/start area but I'd rather run the hills of ATL than these hills. Not a lot of music on the course because most of the course is thru neighborhoods. Last year they had the ATL Challenge, run the 13.1 ATL and Publix GA for a special medal.

I am coming from Athens. Can you recommend a nice, close hotel?
Anything near lenox mall is not too far. There is also a hotel, a think an extended stay so I am not sure how nice it is, about a mile from the start. Are you okay driving to the start or taking marta? that would also help. just let me know!
