Running for Bigger Causes and PFTW

As most of you know, I am a big fan of running for a cause.  I run for TNT and love supporting others who choose to run for a cause.  I had decided a while back to make my Mercedes 1/2 marathon part of my run for Gabby as well.  It just so turns out that the virtual run for Sherry was going to be the same weekend.  So my weekend was going to be running for causes.

Many bloggers are familiar, but in case some of you aren’t, Gabby is Heather’s daughter who is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  Heather is hosting a virtual race and I chose to run the 1/2 marathon.  You can still get in on the action here.

P had his 9 miler scheduled for Saturday and I was going to do my Run for Sherry with him.  We went to the TNT run and the course was an out and back.  I ran around 2.4 miles with him, waited at a waterstop for him, and ran his last 2.4 miles to where we started.  It was really, really cold (little did I know it was only going to get worse).  I realized on our run I forgot my Sherry bib in the car.  She was definitely on my mind and I had already decided I was going to wear the bib on Sunday at the Mercedes 1/2 marathon instead.

The 1/2 marathon went really well (recap to come soon) and I was honored to wear the bib for Sherry and run for her and Gabby.

It was a very cold morning and the course wasn’t that easy–both Sherry and Gabby stayed on my mind during the race and kept me going. Two different reasons to run but both so inspiring.  One for battling cancer at such a young age and the other for having her life taken from her abruptly while doing what she loved.  I am incredibly lucky to have my health and I don’t take that fore granted.

I was moved by the many posts this weekend about the virtual run.  What an amazing group of people the running community is made of—I feel honored to be a part of it.  If you haven’t seen SUARs post today and the tribute video-check it out here.

Thank you Gabby and Sherry for allowing me to run the Mercedes 1/2 marathon in your honor.
