Goofy Weekend Pre-Race Stuff

I figured it would be easier (for you to read and me to write) if I broke the posts into 3 events…

We (TNT Disney team) set out for Orlando late Thursday afternoon.  By the time we landed, got our bags, and rental car we were starved.  So we stopped at Downtown Disney for dinner.  It was here that I quickly realized I was stuck in tourist land for the next 3 1/2 days.  I have never seen so many people taking random pics (of nothing of importance) in my life. 🙂  We ate (a pretty terrible meal) at Fulton’s Crab House-it had the shortest wait and was going to have to do.  I ended up with a baked potato and soup.  Gotta love carb loading.

To the Coronado Springs hotel….TNT hooks you up with a hotel on Disney Property.  The bathroom probably hadn’t been updated in 20 plus years but it was okay for a couple of nights.

yes, those are little Mickey heads on the bedding

I roomed with my teammate Sara all weekend and we had a blast together.

First event for us was a 6:15 wakeup call for our group “loosen up” run around the hotel.  We met at 6:30 and did a short run with the team.

Next…team outing for a CHARACTER BREAKFAST!!  I LOVED this.  I didn’t realize it, but the breakfast at the ‘Ohana is family style.  It worked out perfect for our group.  We enjoyed Hawaiian style breads, potatoes, eggs, fruit, sausage, bacon, fruit juice, coffee, chocolate milk, and my favorite-Mickey waffles.  They were seriously the best waffle I have ever had.

whatever it was-it was good 🙂

We left breakfast and went straight to the expo.  I will say that Disney Events are run like a machine.  Everything is just in its place and the volunteers are amazing!

My bib originally had an E on it.  I knew this wasn’t right and found a very nice volunteer who somehow moved me to A, I would’ve been happy with a C, but okay.  He was also able to move Sara to A.  We both decided he was flirting just being overly nice but A would be a great corral to start in (not for the speed, but for picture purposes).

they have a separate room for the bibs

We flew through the expo because it was a madhouse.  I picked up my GU and was able to switch out my race shirts (M’s were huge) and we were out.

The team decorated our race shirts, had our team meeting and then we were off to the inspiration dinner.

Mickey and Minnie were there to cheer us on!

I briefly yelled at saw Katye from Long Legs on the Loose while she was going through the cheer section.  I explained I read her blog but never got to see her again.  I will admit, it is very hard to meet up with people when doing events with TNT.  Lots to do when you are there.  I missed some twitter peeps too.  Hopefully we will meet again at another race!

The dinner was really cool.  First, Ethan Zohn spoke about his battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma.  Then, we heard from the founder of Team in Training and learned his daughter (who survived her cancer battle at the age of 2 and was the reason TNT was started) was running her first 1/2 with us on Saturday.  We also learned that 902 Disney Team in Training participants raised 3.1 MILLION dollars towards the fight against blood cancers.  A very cool way to end the night and prepare for our race.

Bed time was 9pm.  Wake up call? Yeah, 2:45.

Next up…the 1/2 Marathon recap.
