Three Things Thursday

1.  Quick response to a few things from yesterday-it took approximately 5 weeks to get my new medal from the RNR series.  If you have moved, make sure Competitor has your new address on file…they are good about sending medals if you have an issue too-I had one that went missing last year.  Check our their site for details.

Thanks to Tricia at Endurance isn’t only Physical, I got 15% off the running skirt.  There is a discount code on her blog. WOOT!
2.  I had another personal training session yesterday.  I got on the scale (it was early morning-no food yet) and it hasn’t budged.  AT ALL.  I am beyond frustrated.  I feel like I am sticking to my schedule and eating right.  Yes, I cheat.  I will drink on the weekends, have a glass of wine or two during the week and I know I eat out a fair amount (job and living alone).  But even when I eat out I try to make the right choices.  I don’t know what else to do.  I know that some say you gain weight while training and maybe that is the problem.  I am always training.  I was also asked twice this week when I was due.  I wanted to respond, “I am not, I am just fat” but decided that would be inappropriate.  I asked my chiropractor (who is a friend too) if it was the outfit and he told me it wasn’t flattering.  Hello Goodwill pile.  This is not a pitty party for 1, I promise.  Do yall have this problem when training?  I don’t want to live my life analyzing every single thing I eat.  I feel like I already do to an extent and don’t want to have to be more anal about it.  So annoying.
3.  I will be in NYC during the The North Face Endurance Challenge in Atlanta and I am so bummed to miss this fun race!  They have a 5K and distances all the way up to a 50 miler.  The race is actually in Pine Mountain, GA which is south of Atlanta near Callaway Gardens.  It is such a pretty area and it is during the perfect time of the year.  I am excited to tell yall I will be offering a FREE entry to any distance on my blog soon.  So if you are racing the states and need a GA race or live in GA and were thinking about it the race here is your chance.  If you don’t want to wait…you can check it all out here and sign up :)
3.5  I didn’t forget about my Q&A; post..one of the questions was about my house and I wanted it to be a bit more presentable…so answers coming soon!!

  • thanks for the notification on 5 weeks, that means I should be getting a medal soon!
weight is so tricky- when training, especially on race day, we might be heavier because of carb loading and carbs attract water to muscles- its a good thing, but it DOES show up on the scale.
I would start experimenting. I gain 8lbs in 2.5 weeks- which is UNHEARD of for me. So I started cutting out little things and in a matter of a few days just going from 2 cups of coffee to 1 and drinking more water allowed me to go down 2lbs. Not saying you'll have success, but it was just my body's way of saying 'we need more water' bc if you don't get enough your body will retain, which again, shows up on the scale.

is there anything missing from your diet nutrient wise? sometimes if we are deficient we can be UP TO 40lbs overweight depending on the nutrient.

  • I am SO with you on the weight thing. I've GAINED about 6 pounds since becoming a marathoner 4 years ago – about 2 pds a year and now, despite tracking calories and watching diet, I'm up a pound this week instead of down. Trying to lose about 10 pounds total, but at this point, I'd be happy with a solid 5. It's very frustrating, and I'm like you, eat very healthily, don't overindulge often and nada movement. If you figure it out, let me know!

  • Oh weight: the final frontier. I think the key for me is intervals. They rev my metabolism and torch the fat. Drinking plenty of water helps a ton too. It is super frustrating though.
