Saturday I ran my first 4 mile race (yay for automatic PR’s), the Atlanta Track Club’s Father’s Day 4 Miler. I am a member the of the ATC and this was one of the free races for the year for members. It also ended on home plate at Turner Field (home of the Braves)…so I figured, why not?
There wasn’t a packet pickup before the race so I headed to Turner Field early, around 6:30 or so. I was glad I did…somehow my number got lost and they had to make me a new one (sadly that meant I didn’t get a bib with my name on it). The volunteers were awesome and very helpful!

I did a quick warmup and ran into a few of my TNT, Daily Mile and Twitter friends- Laura, Tim, David, and Matt. Laura and I ended up starting together and both of us have the same goals right now (get faster, sub 4 marathon) so I knew she would be good to push me.
The start was uphill. I knew from the 5k the other weekend that I needed to watch my start speed–especially with the hill. I was feeling good-my breathing felt fairly normal (it rained Friday night and it cooled off and there was less smog) and I was enjoying the scenery. We ran through the Grant Park neighborhood and by the Atlanta Zoo. I could see Laura the entire race but couldn’t quite keep up with her. I kept telling myself to watch it and not burn, you have never run a 4 mile race. But I was feeling good. As we hit mile three I realize that I would’ve killed my 5K PR. WOW. Sub 8’s. I was hauling it. Insanely enough, at some point, two dads with jogging strollers passed me. WTH. They were way fast.
The last mile had a killer uphill. I just kept my head down and starting picking people off to pass as I went along. Once I could see Turner Field I knew I was home free. We turned into the parking lot of stadium and were led onto the field. I was gaining on a guy here and all of the sudden he gave out. I kinda felt bad for him but I could see the clock and could tell I was going to get a sub 32:00. Hells yeah. I was excited…even when two dudes raced past me in a sprint against each other. I finished in 31:26. 7:50 pace. Don’t mind if I do. 🙂
I took a couple of pictures of the field and ran into Laura. She killed it!! 31:01. We were shuffled up to post race area and I grabbed a banana and mini protein bar and we waited for the awards ceremony.

|YAY! Go Laura!|
Overall a very fun race. Even up hills with downhills and very friendly volunteers. And you finish the race at home plate of the Braves stadium. I can see myself doing this one again next year.
Very happy with this!!
