For the past year or so I used Pacetats to help me with my goal race times. I honestly didn’t know there were other options. That is, until I read about Races2Remember on several different blogs. I decided to check out their Pace Bands.
First thing I noticed? You pick your course!! This was huge for me because Big Sur was obviously going to have some hills. I knew I was going to need to adjust my pace and time accordingly but wasn’t sure how I was actually going to do it. R2R made it easy. Their Smart Pace Bands are customized for the course and give you extra time where necessary (hills) and “tells” you where you will need to make it up.
Second cool feature? You can pick your pace strategy. You can have a warm up, a modified warm up, an even pace or tell them your own. Whichever fits your running style. This was also key for me because I knew I was going to start out slow to save my legs for later in the race.
You can play on their website and see what pace you might want to use and put in your goal finish time with the Smart Pace Calculator.
R2R also gives you 3 bands when you order. You can pick 3 different goals (times and pace strategy) and have options on race day. This was really handy too. I ordered a 4:00, a 4:15, and a 4:30. I would have loved to run a 4:15 but after driving the Big Sur course the day before the race I decided to use the 4:30 pace band instead. I was glad I had the option.
You can also add encouraging words to your pace band. Since my race was for TNT, I chose the “Run for TNT” for my bands but they have plenty others to choose from or, of course, you can customize your own.
This was all a very easy process. I waited too late to order my bands and I was worried they wouldn’t make it on time but the peeps at Races2Remember made it quick, easy, and painless. I ordered my bands and in less than 24 hours they had emailed me a confirmation and a preview of my bands. I love that they send you a preview (we caught a glitch in their system that day and they fixed it before my final order). I confirmed my order and received my bands even faster than expected.
And, they worked! I came in under the 4:30 goal and even the team at R2R noticed. They sent me a congrats email on my race and my time. VERY IMPRESSIVE customer service. I will definitely be ordering these for my races in the fall.
Races2Remember was kind enough to allow one of you to try them too! If you aren’t in the need of a Pace Band you can get tattoos, Grace Bands, Back Bibs, or a Name Bib (they make cheering signs but will not be available with the giveaway).
