OK. For real this time. I have to get better at this blogging thing. That is my goal. I will learn moreabout how to make my site better and I will post more….but, on to my first 26.2!!
I finished my FIRST MARATHON 2 weeks ago!! I ran the Rock and Roll Seattle Full Marathon on June 26. I can’t believe it is all over (well, not really-still training for other races) and that I did it. I ran with Team In Training and recently wrote a blog post for the GA Chapter. You can visit it here to learn more about my experience and what Team in Training means to me.
I finished the race in 4:18:02. I was a little disappointed because my goal was 4:15 or better. Everyone keeps telling me to be happy because that is a great time for a first marathon. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy, just very competitive with myself. I really enjoyed the first 1/2 of the race. It was really pretty and there was pretty good crowd support. But, when the marathoners separated from the 1/2ers, we hit pavement. And I mean concrete. For about 13 miles. I ran on an interstate (through tunnels too). I didn’t enjoy the end and it was quite painful on my knees and feet. I hit “the wall” around mile 23 but saw my Team in Training coach and she helped get me through the last few miles. Crossing the finish line was very emotional. I never thought I would run a full marathon. I always said I would only do 1/2s and I proved myself wrong. And now I am ready for me. The next full will be in May 2011–Big Sur. The only downside is that it is very hilly and won’t lead to a PR which means I may need to find another marathon for next year….who would’ve thought???
